Advocacy and Action
Addressing the Black maternal health crisis requires a multifaceted approach that encompasses awareness, education, access to care, policy advocacy, community engagement, and research. Implicit bias training and cultural competency programs are essential to addressing systemic biases within healthcare systems and promoting equitable care for Black mothers. Increasing access to quality prenatal care, doula and midwifery support, and addressing social determinants of health are crucial steps in improving maternal health outcomes. Policy advocacy and reform efforts are needed to address structural inequalities and healthcare disparities, while community engagement and empowerment initiatives empower Black communities to advocate for their own healthcare needs. Data collection and research are essential for understanding the factors contributing to racial disparities and identifying effective interventions. By implementing these strategies collectively, we can work towards achieving equitable maternal health outcomes for Black mothers and addressing systemic injustices in maternal healthcare.
